A Day in London
It is often the case that when travelling through London’s airports that there is time for a stopover and exploration of the local area. For a great day of adventure, London is the obvious choice. However, it is hard to break down such a large city and fit it into just one day.
Before you go to England’s capital, take time to research what you want to do and see. This city really has something for everyone, whether that is musicals, football or sight-seeing. To get the most out of the city, avoid queuing to get into major attractions. Nowadays, many attractions offer pre-booking online, meaning you can skip the queues at the door.
London’s Sightseeing Tours
The fastest way to experience London is to travel underground. The disadvantage with this is that you miss all the wonderful architecture and famous sights. If you have just one day to see London’s highlights, take an open-top bus tour. These take approximately two hours and cover world-famous attractions. There are various routes which pass by Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, Tate Modern and Trafalgar Square, to name a few. Once you have done the full route, you can easily decide which attractions to return to and investigate further.
Another recommendation is to do a self-guided walking tour. When walking through London you notice far more than if travelling by bus. Simply by looking around you will see ornate cornices on buildings, the beautiful skyline and the intercultural aspects of the city. The main highlights of walking are of course a stroll through Hyde Park and to North or South Bank with stunning views of Westminster. London has endless types of tours on offer to help you see the city efficiently.
Shopping, Dining and Culture
If you want to spend the day shopping do not miss Oxford Street and Covent Garden, or visit one of the many shopping centres. For those who are looking for a bit of culture visit Leister Square and the West End, taking in a musical or concert. After the sun sets, watch London come to life, not just with the illuminations of the London Eye, but with a buzzing nightlife. There are endless opportunities for dining, tasting a local beer or dancing until the early hours.
Stansted Airport to London
Like a day trip to Cambridge, central London is less than an hour from Stansted. If you choose to travel by the Stansted Express you will be in London Liverpool Street Station in 47 minutes. Friendly staff at the Radisson Blu Hotel, London Stansted Airport will be happy to help with recommendations of how to spend a day in the city.
