The History of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
The first Bishop of Liverpool, John Charles Ryle, was installed in 1880. Despite initiating the project to build a suitable cathedral the current building wasn't completed until 1978. The architect, who won a competition to design this great building, was one Giles Gilbert Scott who presented a vision of a Gothic building with twin towers. In 1910 he submitted a revised design with one central tower and a more modern style that has lasted well over the years.

In 1978 Her Majesty the Queen attended a thanksgiving service to mark the official completion and then in 1991was invited to formally open the 'Queen's Walk'. The final touches of this modern house of worship were a visitor centre opened in 2007 and an upgrade of the restaurant in 2008. Today it often appears highly ranked in tables of Liverpool greatest tourist attractions.
